Face it, a boudoir session is not something you do everyday. But it is an experience I believe every woman should have at least once in her life (if not two or three times, lol). You are NOT alone if you are incredibly nervous about doing a boudoir session. The best way to help relieve some of those nerves is to ask as many questions as you need. The more you know about how your session will go, the more comfortable you’ll feel. So please, do not hesitate to ask any questions you might have, even if you have a hundred of them! I’m here to answer them all and there are no silly questions.
If you have not already, be sure to contact me for the link to the info packet that will give you a whole bunch of info regarding a KNP Boudoir session, studio sets, etc. In the mean time, here are a some of the frequently asked questions I get asked regularly.
Q. Who will be my photographer?
A. Me! Kim Noel. I photograph all the sessions. I warn everyone in advance that I’m a bit of goof ball and definitely a klutz. Yes, it’s true, my husband has nicknamed me “grace” since I so gracefully trip over things and knock things over. No worries though, if anything, it adds a good laugh to your session. In all seriousness, as your photographer my job is to make you look and feel as beautiful and gorgeous as possible. I’ve been a photographer for over six years now and have been photographing boudoir for three years. Boudoir photography is my passion. I want your boudoir session to be FUN! What else can I tell you about me??? I love my husband like crazy. He is my hero and my biggest supporter. He is amazing! I have a fat gray cat, who I swear ran into the wall one too many times … She must have some kind of cat psych disorder, but we love her. She is built in entertainment. I LOVE SHOES!!! But because I’m ever so “graceful” I can’t wear heals very long. So be warned, I will probably go nuts over the shoes you bring to your session, lol. I love my job and I am so grateful that I get to spend my time having so much fun. Come on, I get to play dress up and hair/makeup all the time. It doesn’t get much better than that! Anything else you want to know about me, just ask!
Q. What should I expect during my session?
A. The short answer … FUN! Now that we have that established, here is the longer answer. When you arrive to the studio, I will give you a tour and show you some of the different sets we can use during your photo session. After the tour, we will hang up and go through all the outfits you brought for your session. We will sit and chat about what you are looking to accomplish with your session, as well as any ideas you have about what you want to do. We will also take a look through some album samples so you can see the options as well as different sets and poses. After that, if you have added hair and makeup to your session it will be GLAM time. Once hair and makeup are completed, it’s camera time! As we go through your session, I will pose and coach you all the way. I will tell you what to do with your hands, where to look, what you should do with your mouth and everything else that is needed to bring out your inner super model! After your session we’ll talk about what happens next as well as discuss the privacy of your images. Wondering about that too? Check out the next question!
Q. So let’s talk privacy! What is going to happen with my pictures and do they have to be on your website?
A. Privacy is VERY IMPORTANT too me! I want to make sure that you are completely comfortable with who will and will not see your pictures. Because of this, I have established a privacy policy that I go over with every gal that has a session. Your pictures DO NOT have to go up on my website, or anywhere else for that matter. All the gorgeous ladies you see on my website and blog have given me written permission to show them off. Part of the privacy policy discusses whether you would allow me to show YOU off! Don’t want anyone else to see your pictures? You got it! Your pictures will be completely private and will only be seen by those who you show them too. Interested to know more about the privacy policy? Contact the studio and I’ll be happy to send you a copy of it in advance.
Q. Now that we have privacy down … let’s talk RETOUCHING! What’s the deal with that?
A. Retouching is probably the most asked about topic. All of your initial images will have basic retouching done to them, including some airbrushing and skin softening. The images you chose for your album or anything other prints/products that you may order will have further retouching done. This includes things like stray hairs, bruises, skin imperfections and yes the dreaded cellulite (YES WE ALL HAVE IT!). My job during your session is to pose you and light your pictures in the way that will most flatter you. Therefore there is no need to “alter” your pictures to make it look like something you are not. You will look amazing, I’m sure of it! If you have specific retouching requests or are interested in heavier retouching, let’s talk.
Q. Who is your typical customer?
A. All woman ages 18 and up. I know that seems like a really broad answer, but it’s true. I have photographed woman of all ages, shapes, sizes, races etc. Everyone woman is unique and beautiful. My job is to bring that out through your photographs and hopefully make you see how gorgeous you REALLY ARE! Don’t think you are too old. I have photographed woman in their sixties and they were absolutely beautiful. Don’t worry about your size, you are perfect the way you are. Again, I will pose you and light your photographs in a way to flatter YOU and accentuate all your positive features.
Q. Why have a boudoir session?
A. WHY NOT! You deserve it! Here are just a few of the different reasons ladies have come in to show off their inner vixen:
- They are getting married! Trust me, give a gift to your hubby to be and he’ll be running down that aisle to marry you.
- It’s their anniversary. A boudoir session is great for any anniversary but remember the gift for a 1 year anniversary is paper … so why not fill that paper with sexy pictures.
- Girls Night Out. Not that you need an excuse to hang out with the girls but why not get a lasting gift out of it.
- They just got divorced or dumped! Ahh! I know that sound depressing but talk about an instant self-esteem boost, plus he’ll never even no how much he is losing out!
- They have 1, 2, 3 + kids and really just want to feel sexy again!
- It’s their 20th, 30th, 40th, 50th, 60th, etc birthday and they deserve it!
- It’s a special occasion. A boudoir session make a great Valentine’s Day, Holiday and Birthday Gift.
- Because no one would actually believe they would do something like a boudoir session,
- And just BECAUSE! Face it, life is crazy. Woman are go-getters and overachievers. It’s time to take a few hours out and pamper yourself.
Q. What about getting my hair and makeup done for my session?
A. Hair and makeup can be added to any boudoir session and I highly recommend it. Not only do you look even more amazing in your pictures, but it will give you such a confidence boost right before your session. I work with some of the most AMAZING makeup and hair ladies. They know exactly what looks great in the pictures. And if that is not enough, they are blast to hang out with! Makeup for photo shoots should be applied heavier then you would normally wear, even for a night out. A boudoir session is all about the experience, so seriously consider adding professional hair and makeup to your session. You’ll be happy you did!
Q. What should I wear for my photo shoot?
A. Ahh, outfit planning for your session! It can be a ton of fun but can also be stressful. Let’s talk about what you are looking to achieve with your boudoir session and then we can talk about what type of outfits might work best for that. As you plan for your session be sure to check out the What To Wear Wednesday post on the blog: http://www.knpboudoir.com/blog/topics/session-tips/. There are all sorts of different outfit options posted there, from more conservative to more scandalous. Here are a few ideas to get you started: bras, panties (some that match your bra and some that don’t), corsets, teddies, mens shirts, tank tops, garters, thigh high stockings, sports jersey or anything else you feel beautiful and sexy in. Don’t forget sexy heels and jewelry.
Q. Can I bring a friend?
A. Yes, as long as she’s a female. I have a no guys allow policy at the studio during boudoir sessions. If you want to bring a girlfriend along for support you absolutely can. Want to both have a session? Ask about booking with a friend discount, or a Girls Night Out party for all the girls.
Q. I’m ready to book! What do I do and how far in advance should I book my session?
A. I recommend booking your session about two months before you need your product. Don’t worry, if you are already past that time frame and need your product sooner, let me know. In most cases I can work things out. To officially book your boudoir session, I require a $100 deposit that goes toward your package price. Your booking is all done online after we pick your session date and time.
Q. I still have more questions, what should I do?
A. Call, 215-785-2030 or e-mail the studio: kim@knpboudoir.com. I’m here to answer any other questions you might have!
